The cook within

Most of you know I like to cook.
I’m often asked, “What kind of cook are you?”
It’s not a simple answer. I learned most of my cooking skills by watching my mom and grand mother. Read a few books. Watched a few shows. And did a mess of experimenting.
I’ve finally narrowed it down to, I’m a [...]

/me member

I don’t get to post much as a member of WHT. Of course, that could have something to do with my position.
I would love to have time to just surf and post. But, my hours are spent chasing spammers and scammers. And then there’s the bit about managing staff.
I had thought that a larger [...]

new blood

We installed some new Liaisons on WebHostingTalk today.
Once upon a time, we had thirty one. For whatever reason(s), we had fallen to twenty one. Now with the new eleven, we’re up to thirty two.
I hope to be at fifty some day.

the Perplexing Plummeting Post Proliferation

I wish that vB gave us the option to see our post count average over a given time period.
Right now, mine is (13.83 posts per day).
It wasn’t very long ago it was (14.83 posts per day).
And, not long before that, (15.83 posts per day).
I seem to spend most of my time posting to help desk [...]

I have the worst luck

I research every provider about as well as possible before deciding on a service.
I don’t necessarily go with the most popular. But, will go with someone that has demonstrated through deeds that they deliver what they’re paid to.
That being said, I did go with a popular merchant gateway a year or more ago. Basically because [...]

seeing stars

as in stargate.com
They cost me another domain name.
I believe that they made the following post in a blatant attempt to misinform the members of WebHostingTalk. http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=2878029&#post2878029
From speaking with their support representative, it is clear that, if they did initiate a 40 day renewal after expiration of a name, it could not have been for more [...]

whatever happened

to Voicelance?
Jim used to hang out at WHT for a bit and even did a promo for me.
The site is different today (especially since it re-directs to something similar). But, it seemed to be quite popular when he first started posting on WHT.
Maybe there aren’t enough hosts that take advantage of local radio advertising?

you’d think

that the amount of money WebHostingTalk.com spends on . . . err . . . web hosting, they’d be about as stable as stable can get.
The site has been messed for a few months now.
What’s worse is, when it has a serious problem, it can be impossible to contact someone to fix it.
If they were [...]

tuesdays with SWR

I think I have it worked out that I can take Tuesdays off from WebHostingTalk.
I’ll find out when I get back there.
I been workin’ for a couple months to have a day that I can devote to my business interests. And I think we have it sorted down to Tuesdays.
So, now Tuesdays are [...]

when members attack

I don’t talk about WebHostingTalk much, because most of my interaction is from an administrative position.
But, these cowards that choose to attack the moderation of WHT instead of addressing their own self do get on my nerves.
The latest incident involves a member that has “left WHT for good” on three different occasions that I’m aware [...]

one day away

That’s all I need.
Just one day away from the madness.
Getting close to having one day off from WHT.
I just want one day where I can comfortably not have to log into the forum or helpdesk.
It’s more of a need than a want though. I don’t mind working on WHT daily. But, I [...]

what’s The Point?

We use a warning point system on WHT.
People that get points, hate them.
But, I’m happy to say, there are far more people that never receive one point than there are members that get warned.
The point?
Don’t get points.
It can’t be that hard.
If you do get points, accept the fact that you got them. Take them as [...]

if Your Web Host

dies.
Yes. If your webhost dies; it dies.
The best you can hope for is to have current copies of those backups you promised yourself you’d get around to saving locally.
With so many hosting choices, it’s a difficult decision to make. Which one to choose? Why?
However, even the best of host can take incomplete or corrupted backups [...]

of ZiTT

Going to be introducing ZiTT to WHT soon. Hopefully by the end of the week.
What’s a ZiTT, you ask? Well, that would be “Zero Instigation Tenet Time.”
In short; if someone posts something that may be construed as insulting another member, country, ideology, etc. that member’s post will be removed and he’ll have earned himself a [...]

of The SSS

The SSS (SoftWareRevue Sleeping System)
When I began the journey into supplying internet commodities, I knew I’d need to be always accessible. The only way to be always accessible, is to never sleep.
Since, not sleeping wasn’t an option, I came up with next best thing. I only nap.
Wake for three or four hours. Sleep for one.
The [...]

of Free Hosting

Free web hosting is seldom free. However, it can have it’s place.
I see it as a win-win for both sides. If you, as a consumer, can utilize the tools a free web host offers while you learn what this web hosting thing is all about; go for it. If you, as a provider of free [...]

WebhostingTalk.com

Many know me as SoftWareRevue on WebHostingTalk.com. Some know me as Dennis Johnson.
I spend a lot of time on WebHostingTalk. I have learned so much there. And have made many on-line acquaintances.
When I first landed there, I knew very little about all this www stuff. Not that I know a lot now. But, what I [...]
