Control guns and control killing …

I don’t think it works like that. In fact, I am certain mass-killings would rise with further criminalization of guns.

If guns are illegal, only illegals will have guns. OK – Maybe not that. But if guns are illegal, someone intent on “making the news” (Face it. Most mass murders are done for sensationalism) will simply have to use a different method.

Will they grab a knife and go on a mass-knifing kill spree?

Don’t think so.

Maybe they’d open up their thesaurus and unleash some killing verbiage.

Not bloody likely!

How about if they simply build a simple bomb?

AHH — OK — That gets my vote. I’d bet on more bombings leading to greater carnage.

You may not know this – In fact, very few do — But Before Sandy Creek — Before Columbine — There was Bath Elementary.

The Bath School Disaster of 1927 stands as the bloodiest and most violent attack against our school children. Not with assault rifles – Not even with hand guns – But with home made bombs.

On May 18, 1927 a 55 year old school board treasurer, angry after his defeat in the spring 1926 election for township clerk, killed 38 elementary school children and six adults, and injured at least 58 other people by bombing the Bath Elementary school.

Don’t let Bath be the standard. Keep guns legal.

Don’t ask me how I remember about Bath. But I do live in Michigan (same as Bath). And I once wanted to know everything about this state.

Sometimes knowing everything is knowing too much.

  1. Let’s not forget another history lesson.

“To conquer a nation, first disarm its citizens” – Adolf Hitler

OK. OK. There is no written documentation to confirm Hitler made that exact statement. However, it is more likely a summation of other statements and writings by Adolf Hitler.

There are, however, verifiable Hitler statements which very closely echo the sentiment of the quote in question. These can be found in Hitler’s Table Talk, 1941-1944: Secret Conversations with the English translation copyrighted 1953 by Weidenfeld and Nicolson.

Consider this often-cited passage, from Part Three: 6 February – 7 September 1942:

The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. Indeed, I would go so far as to say that the supply of arms to the underdogs is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let’s not have any native militia or native police.

There is another passage from the same book with perhaps an even closer resemblance to the quote in question. This quote is referenced on page xxxii of a preface of the 2008 edition from Enigma Books entitled “The Mind of Adolf Hitler” by H.R. Trevor-Roper. It isn’t clear whether this is a separate quote, or merely a different translation of the second sentence in the quote above. It states, “History teaches us that all master races have declined once they consented to arm the peoples they had conquered.”
